Each U.P. Foster Closet location is an independently funded and operated 501(c)3 non-profit, tax exempt organization. We are dedicated and united in our mission to provide assistance to children placed in local foster care or into the care of someone other than their biological parents. Each location is operated 100% by volunteers; most of them current or former foster parents. Though we are independently operated, we work together to ensure that the needs are not only met in Delta, Dickinson and Marquette counties but the surrounding areas as well.
We strongly believe that ALL CHILDREN ARE OUR CHILDREN. It is our goal to ensure that children who are removed from their homes have the opportunity to live as normal a life as possible during one of the most difficult and traumatic times of their life. More times than not, children are removed from their homes with just the clothing they have on at the time. While foster families receive a stipend for clothing, that amount barely covers the most basic of clothing needs and is only issued twice a year. Many foster families have purchase items out of pocket and then wait for reimbursement. This is where we come in. By providing items for the children, we can help offset the initial financial strain for the foster family.
