The Sylvania Police Department is primarily responsible for protecting and safeguarding the lives and property of Sylvania residents through enforcement of criminal laws and safety education. The department has officers trained in specialized areas such as accident investigation, criminal and drug investigation, traffic enforcement and juvenile crime. Court Services include Probation and Clerk of Courts support for our City. The department is also diligent in providing residential and business checks.
The Police Department, located in the Department of Public Safety Building at 216 Mims Road, is a full service 24 hours per day agency. The department roster includes 11 full time Officers and two full time Clerk-Dispatchers. The department is supported by a number of part-time officers and dispatchers, as well as a full time Records Clerk. There are eight vehicles assigned to the Police Force.
The Police Department is also responsible for animal control within the city limits. The department works closely with other law enforcement agencies in the area and is linked to the state and national crime information centers via computer terminals. The Police Department relies on the community’s support to be effective, and believes a cooperative relationship between law enforcement and members of the community is necessary to reduce crime and its effects.
