The aim of Torrington Housing Authority is to ensure safe, decent, and affordable housing; create opportunities for resident self-sufficiency and economic independence; and assure fiscal integrity by all program participants.
Section 8 (Housing Choice Voucher) Program
The Section 8 (Housing Choice Voucher) Program consists of housing subsidies provided by the Federal Government that allow eligible families to rent apartments in the private rental market through housing subsidies equal to the difference between 30% of the household gross income and the payment standard established for the household family size.
Public Housing Program
The Public Housing Program consists of five (5) housing sites (Torrington Towers, Thompson Heights, Willow Gardens, Michael Koury Terrace and Laurel Acres). Housing subsidies provided by the Federal Government to the Housing Authority allow eligible families age 50 and over and/or disabled to rent an apartment paying 30% of the household gross income as rent.
