The Federación Uruguaya de Cooperativas de Vivienda por Ayuda Mutua (FUCVAM), established in 1970, is a second-tier organization that unites housing cooperatives across Uruguay, promoting the principles of mutual aid, collective ownership, and self-management to ensure the right to housing . Over its 55-year history, FUCVAM has supported more than 600 cooperatives, providing homes for approximately 25,000 to 30,000 families, and has become a significant force in Uruguay’s social housing movement .
