Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos (Casa Julia), founded in 1979, is the first shelter in Puerto Rico dedicated to women survivors of domestic violence. Since its inception, Casa Julia has played a crucial role in the protection and assistance of these women, developing escape, security and contingency plans, and creating safe spaces for mothers and their children facing imminent risks of physical and psychological harm.
Through our shelter, guidance and counselling services, we empower our participants to recognise their potential and take control of their lives, allowing them to live free from violence.
We currently have two additional centers in Ponce and Aguadilla, which offer outpatient services for those women who, for various reasons, cannot access our shelter.
At Casa Julia, our commitment is unwavering: to offer a safe haven, comprehensive support and a path to a dignified life free of violence for all women who walk through our doors.
