Atlantic Medical Center is a community-based, non-profit organization that has been offering primary and preventive health services to the residents of Barceloneta, Sabana Hoyos and neighboring towns since 1986. The center is run by a Board of Directors, made up of community leaders and patients of the center, who respond to the needs of the community they serve.
Operating under Section 330 of the United States Public Health Law, the center operates through federal funds, private plan funds, and funds from the Vital Health Plan of Puerto Rico. These funds are intended to provide and facilitate access to health services.
The health services offered are guided by strict performance standards that promote access to preventive care and high quality medical care. Since 2003, the center has met the requirements proposed by and has been accredited by the Joint Commission of Health Care Organizations (Joint Commission). Likewise, since 2013, Atlantic Medical Center has been accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), which recognizes it as a Patient Centered Medical Home. This means that services are offered following standards of coordinated care, quality and evidence -based services, which differentiate us from other primary care institutions.
