The Public Defense at the Ministry of Justice was founded in 1996 after the Public Defense Act was passed in 1995.
The Public Defense Office plays a crucial role in maintaining justice in criminal legal proceedings. The adversarial justice system, based on equality between both parties in the proceedings, requires acknowledging the right for legal representation and particularly for adequate representation, in order to guarantee that justice is served.
