The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation was founded on October 28 1970 on the initiative of Dr. Adnan Buyung Nasution, SH, who was fully supported by Ali Sadikin as Governor of Jakarta at that time. The establishment of the Legal Aid Institute in Jakarta was followed by the establishment of LBH branch offices in areas such as Banda Aceh, Medan, Palembang, Padang, Bandar Lampung, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Bali, Makassar, Manado, Papua, Pekanbaru, Palangka Raya, Samarinda and West Kalimantan. Currently YLBHI has 18 LBH branch offices in 18 provinces.
