The SOS Children’s Village in Bhubaneswar began its operations in 1996 with the goal of supporting parentless and abandoned children by providing them with a family-like environment. Currently, the village cares for 156 children, each looked after by an SOS Mother and an SOS Aunt, fostering sibling-like relationships among the children.
Upon arrival, children’s basic needs are met, and they receive emotional support to help them adjust to their new surroundings. Recognized for Group Foster Care under the Juvenile Justice Act, the village also initiated a Kinship Programme, placing parentless children under the care of relatives with financial support to facilitate easier adaptation.
All children in the village are enrolled in formal schools to receive proper education. Additionally, mothers and co-workers receive training on child protection, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and cyber safety.
