Funded by the federal government, through the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), public housing was established to provide safe, decent, affordable housing. Westerly Housing Authority provides three developments of public housing for the elderly, and families who meet the income limit guidelines set forth by HUD.
This program houses individuals who are income-qualified and 55 years old or older and/or disabled. The 110 units are located in the Park View Apartments at 9 Dixon Street and Chestnut Court Apartments at 5 Chestnut Street.
