Clearwater Fire & Rescue was established as a fire department in 1897, legally established through Florida State Statute no. 144, Chapter 4658 and Clearwater City Charter. Clearwater Fire & Rescue consists of eight stations and more than 200 staff positions. As a municipal corporation, the City was chartered by the City Council as The City of Clearwater, Florida on May 31, 1916 under Ordinance No. 172.
