Safe Haven, operated by the Sault Ste. Marie Housing Commission, assists single females and intact families with emergency housing within Chippewa County. Safe Haven is an emergency family shelter offering emergency housing to those deemed Homeless (Category 1 – of the HUD federal definition). We can provide anywhere from 1-90 days, according to compliance with program rules and regulations.
Those who are residing in the Safe Haven program receive assistance from other agencies (the local HARA) for case management and housing plan development. Our units are organized dormitory style, with people from different families sharing common living space.
