Thumb Area Assault Crisis Center (TAACC), a program of the Human Development Commission, is the state-designated provider of domestic/sexual violence services for Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties. TAACC opened its doors in 1986 and serves both residential and non-residential survivors of domestic/sexual violence, their dependent children, and other family members.
Emergency shelter is available 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week throughout the year. Services respond to the immediate and longer-term needs of survivors and their families. They include are confidential, trauma-informed, and focus on an empowerment philosophy.
Individual supports provides emotional and practical support, including crisis intervention and safety planning.
Group supports allow survivors an opportunity to express their feeling and thoughts without fear of judgement or retribution. Survivors see others in different stages of recovery, which creates hope for a future without violence.
